The Athletic has live coverage of Texas vs. Oklahoma in Week 6 of college football action.

It will be the end of an era of sorts when the Oklahoma Sooners and Texas Longhorns meet this weekend. With both schools set to join the SEC next year, this will be their final encounter as Big 12 rivals. Both schools are undefeated with the Longhorns installed as favorites against the Sooners.

After getting whitewashed 49-0 by Texas last season, Oklahoma’s offense appears to be back to its high-scoring ways. The Sooners are third in the country in scoring at 47.4 points per game and put up 50 in last Saturday’s home rout of Iowa State.

The Sooners’ Dillon Gabriel is not only the Big 12’s most accurate quarterback (75.2 percent completion rate) but he’s also the most prolific with 1,593 passing yards and 15 touchdowns. He’s added a team-leading four scores on the ground and has thrown just two interceptions. He alone could be a difference-maker considering he didn’t play in this game last year because of a concussion. Plenty of others on the OU roster have chipped in on the stat sheet – six different players have a rushing touchdown and eight have scored through the air.

For Texas, Quinn Ewers has posted an impressive 10:1 touchdown-to-interception ratio five games into his second season as the starter and he’s tied for the team lead with five rushing scores. Sophomore Jonathon Brooks could be the Longhorns’ next great running back. He’s third in the nation with 597 rushing yards and is averaging seven yards per carry.

Oklahoma has yet to give up a rushing touchdown and is tied for fourth in the country at 10.8 points per game allowed but don’t expect this one to be a low-scoring affair.

Pay particular attention to what happens on third down. The Sooners are sixth in FBS with a 55.2 percent conversion rate (Texas sits tied for 57th at 42 percent) while both defenses are similarly stingy in such situations. Texas is 10th, allowing opponents to convert just 26.9 percent of the time on third down with Oklahoma not far behind at 27.6 percent (12th).

Regardless of the records, both teams and fan bases always get fired up for this game. But there’s plenty at stake this year. Bragging rights, conference control and a signature win for the playoff resume are just a few of the spoils of victory the winning team will claim. Not bad for a Big 12 send-off.
