Former President Jimmy Carter's wife Rosalynn Carter is in hospice care at home in Plains, Georgia, her family announced on Friday. The 39th commander-in-chief of the United States has been receiving end-of-life care since February. Meanwhile, social media users are asking where their daughter Amy Carter is now.
The Carter family, in a statement, said that they are “grateful for the outpouring of love and support” but asked for privacy. The former First Lady is 96 years old and is suffering from dementia. Her husband of 77 years is 99.
Amy Carter entered the limelight as a child when she lived in the White House during her father's presidency. She was born on October 19, 1967 in Plains, Georgia three years before Jimmy Carter was elected as the governor of the state. In 1976, he was elected as the president.
Amy, who is 56 years old now, was raised in Plains. She moved to the White House at the age of 9. The President's daughter attended public schools in Washington - first Stevens Elementary School and then Rose Hardy Middle School.
After Jimmy Carter's presidency, Amy moved to Atlanta where she studied at the Woodward Academy in College Park. The 56-year-old attended the Brown University but was dismissed in 1987. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree (BFA) from the Memphis College of Art and a master's degree in art history from Tulane University in New Orleans.
Carter was n activist there-on. She participated in sit-ins and protested against US foreign policy towards South African apartheid and Central America. She was one amongst the 15 who were arrested during a 1986 demonstration at the University of Massachusetts Amherst for protesting CIA recruitment there. She was acquitted.
In September 1996, Carter married computer consultant James Gregory Wentzel.
